Volunteers
Volunteers are central to a successful Power of Hope gathering. Hundreds of adults have volunteered with Power of Hope over the years and make our programs the unique experiences that they are. Each of our gatherings brings together an amazing group of youth, artists, activists, youth workers, educators, and other creative adults. The youth and adults come from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds to participate in a fabulous opportunity to learn about creating community and using the arts in working with youth. Year after year, we find that our adult volunteers gain as much from their experience at The Power of Hope as the youth. Everyone thrives in an atmosphere where they feel free to relate to creative people of all ages.
Here are a few comments from past gatherings:
"It's always great to be part of Power of Hope. I leave energized and inspired to be creative."
"It gave me hope that people of different backgrounds can find common ground."
"It gave me confidence in my ability to facilitate experiential learning."
Volunteer Opportunities
There are a number of volunteer opportunities available at Power of Hope gatherings.
- Youth Mentor: As a youth mentor, you'll be part of a close-knit team that produces the event from start to finish. Your main job is to be present for the young people, and take an active role in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Specialized Arts/Environmental Resource Person and Workshop Leaders:
At each program, people who have specific skills to share are welcome to
offer workshops and be part of the community to offer your skills to the
youth and adults. We are often looking for people with specific arts
skills such as music, theatre, dance, visual arts or writing as well as
outdoor and environmental educators and people with more inner-work type
offerings such as yoga or meditation.
- Kitchen/Logistics Support: The Power of Hope programs are always a hub of activity. Volunteers work with our chef to prepare delicious, healthy, home-made fare for 60 to 100 folks three times each day
and there are lots of more "behind the scenes" logistics kinds of tasks that
need to be done. We invite volunteers to come for the entire
program and be part of the community and support the amazing process that
happens at a Power of Hope programs
