Monologue Project Forges Ahead
In 2007, Power of Hope Americorps volunteers and staff began a program in
Bellingham where middle school students wrote original monologues about
their life experiences and what mattered to them. Acting students at
Western Washington University then created a show using the monologues and
performed it back for the student writers and the community. "The
Monologue Project" also includes a meet and greet for the writers with the
college students and some opportunities for the younger students to try
out acting themselves. POH was able to help facilitate the program for a
second year and then passed it on to a English teacher at the middle
school.
Power of Hope just got word that the project is still going strong in it's
4th year and recently won a Mayor's Arts Award in Bellingham! Check out
