Art of Leadership workshop a huge success!

The Art of Leadership: Creative Facilitation for Youth, was another successful first for POH this year. This two-weekend training was based off our facilitation training series for adults and was tailored to provide local youth leaders in the Seattle area with facilitation and presentation skills.

During the first weekend the youth explored personal creativity as young community organizers through theater improvisation, a group poem, and dialogue about the benefits of public art. Leadership skills like presentation techniques and group facilitation were the focus of the second weekend.

A partnership with the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center’s Youth Programming Committee and City of Seattle Youth Arts Funding made this amazing program possible.

At the end of the first training, one youth summed it up for us: “I have this quote I live by: ‘I don’t think outside the box, I think inside a different one.’ You guys did exactly that! I expected to get a lecture and everything but you guys met me at my spot. You took something different (theater) and turned it into leadership. I loved it.”

Our staff loved the training as well and can’t wait to offer it again next year!
