Youth Leadership Days
FAIRHAVEN, WA

This past January 25th
we successfully facilitated our fourth Youth Leadership Day at Fairhaven
Middle School in Fairhaven. To explain more fully: the Youth Leadership Day is
an all day program in which middle school students (6th-8th
grade) have the opportunity, through various arts-oriented workshops, to
explore aspects of leadership and what it means to be leader within their
school and their community. The youth participate in building a positive
community dynamic within the group during two plenary sessions. They also have
the chance to participate in two smaller workshops focused on areas such as
Hip Hop dance, creative writing, drawing, and theater arts, where they explore
in depth the idea of leadership and its different forms. At the end of the day
they come together to discuss ideas for positively addressing issues in their
community. These particular programs have now been done in all four middle
schools in the Bellingham School district, and are anticipated to occur
annually during the fall semester of each middle school.
