Power of Hope was
sought out to offer trainings in creativity and community-building
to networks of amazing adult social change agents at a couple of
recent local conferences. The
Pegasus Communications conference and
the Guiding Lights mentoring conference were these two special
occasions. The 17th Annual Pegasus Conference:
Amplifying Our Impact: Strategies for Unleashing the Power of
Relationship (Nov. 5-7) brought hundreds of adults from around
the country together to explore ways that we can connect and engage
with others to create powerful outcomes in our work in
environmentalism, systems thinking and community development. Peggy
Taylor, Alan Wong and Kat Vellos led an exciting workshop in using
creative arts to form bonds with ourselves and others.
The Guiding
Lights Weekend (Jan. 25-27) was based on the tenets of the book by
the same name, written by Eric Liu. With the overarching theme of “Live.
Learn. Pass it on.”, conference-goers and workshop presenters
gathered to celebrate the people that have been mentors in their
lives, and to grow skills and confidence in the way that they also
serve as mentors in the lives of others. Peggy Taylor and Kat Vellos
led two fun workshops in how creativity and engaging the imagination
are key to powerful mentoring, building self-esteem and raising the
joy factor in life.
